5.0 out of 5 stars The little known, blue-eyed genius of soul!!, 7 Feb 2001
By Stevie Maudsley (Preston, Lancs) - See all my reviews
Forgive my assumption, but you probably haven't heard of Eddie Hinton. Most people I have asked haven't, even those with an extensive musical knowledge. So how good can he be? Surely were he to be of any real quality you would have heard of at least a song or two of his? Let me assure you:This guy was great! Comparissons to Otis Redding are obvious and let's face it, is there a much higher recommendation than that? "Sad Song" is an excellent, if admittedly unnecessary cover of an Otis standard and the Title track is A song I'm sure the Big 'O' would have been proud to put his name to. Hinton is much more than a Redding mimic however and songs such as "Can't beat the Kid" and "Three hundred pounds of Hongry" add to the album a delicious 'Southern Swamp'sound, sort of a funky Lynryd Skynyrd vibe. Bluesy numbers such as "watch Dog" just add another layer to this fine album. If you love music and, like me, enjoy discovering rare treats of mega-talent to which most others are oblivious, buy this album!! Go on, take a risk. I promise that Eddie's voice will not dissappoint.

No ones heard of Eddie Hinton, thats tragic as he has one of the best soul voices around. From the beatiful ballads such as I cant be me to the upbeat I got my thang together, this record oozes class. Look just buy it, you cant be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars the greatest soul singer you have never heard of., 5 April 2007
By A. J. brown "andycara" (Newcastle) - See all my reviews

Eddie Hinton what can you say, sould be mentioned in the same sentence as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett and all the over great soul singers of the 60's and 70's. The whole of this album is fabulous but it is worth the money for 'It Can't Be Me'which wouldn't be out of place on any of the modern day soul compilations they lazily knock out every month.

Rumour has it that Eddie Hinton taught Otis Redding's kids how to play guitar and this seems rather fitting as you can here so much of Otis in Eddie's recordings.
